Trekkers reunion at Lower Shaw Farm 13/14 March 2010
16 Animals Asia supporters who trekked together in Vietnam last Oct got together for a reunion at Lower Shaw Farm. It was a fantastic weekend of sharing our photos and videos whilst being looked after by Matt Holland and the helpers at the farm. One special person called Bernie drove over from Luxembourg with a car full of 13 metal moon bear cages which he had hand made. He had presented Jill Robinson with one of the money box cages when we visited the moon bear rescue centre in Vietnam and we all asked if he could make us one too. 300 hours of hard work later they were ready. We paid £60 each for the cages and Bernie kindly donated all the money to Animals Asia through the Swindon support group. He raised an amazing £540 for the bears. We also raised a further £210 from prints donated by David and Rachel Stribbling.

A huge thank you to Bernie for donating these amazing cages which will help us to raise lots more money for the bears due to the visual impact that they make.
After lots of fundraising ideas were exchanged and events lined up for the coming year we had a delicious dinner served up and then it was all round the camp fire for marsh mellows and stories enthusiastically performed by Matt Holland himself.

Swindon’s first Walk for Freedom Sept 13th 09 Walk slideshow
Blessed by kind weather, over 90 walkers and their canine companions took part in Swindon’s first Walk for Freedom on Sunday 13thSeptember in aid of Animals Asia Foundation. Organised by local residents Sarah and David Chilvers, Louise Wack and Karen Johnson, the walk through local community woodland, near Peatmoor lagoon, was supported both by Swindon residents and those coming from much further afield. Thanks to the generosity of the Bombay Lounge, walkers were welcomed back to the finish by the tempting aroma of Indian snacks donated by the restaurant and were encouraged to part with further money at the Tombola, with gifts donated by companies and individuals from all over Swindon. Seen off on the walk by Moonie the bear, they were all prepared to put their best feet forward to raise funds for Animals Asia and the walk raised nearly £2700 which is going towards our name a moon bear target, this first walk was an undoubted success and promises to become an annual event.

Leon Moore - Three Peaks Challenge 5th July 09

On July the 5th Leon, along with five others volunteers, Dan, Joe, Lizzy, Lynda and Polly set themselves a huge task to complete the Three Peaks Challenge, this is to climb the mountains Ben Nevis (in Scotland) Scarfell Pike (in England) and Snowdon (in Wales), all within a 24 hour period, this included the driving in between the mountains. This was a huge mission and on Sunday they set off to climb Ben Nevis at 5pm wearing T-shirts, by the time they reached the top they were wrapped up in their fleece jackets as there was snow near the summit. Then out of nowhere the heavens opened and on went the waterproofs and they experienced hard rain as they descended from the summit, making the climbing conditions more dangerous! By the time they reached the bottom they were in light clothes again.
They quickly changed and bundled into the minibus and off they went travelling through the night to the next mountain challenge - Scarfell Pike! It was a long drive, experiencing awful weather, and as they finally arrived at 4.30am the weather had worsened, it was torrential rain and extreme winds.
This was the hardest climb of all for them due to the extreme conditions, the rocky mountain surface and very uneven ground, not to mention the odd stream that they needed to cross. Upon reaching the summit visibility was extremely poor, only about 4 metres ahead.
The weather improved as they headed into Wales and everyones spirits were lifted as the end was finally in sight. Snowdon was an enjoyable but painful climb for them all, not to mention physically tiring due to the lack of sleep they had all experienced. What a huge relief it was for them to finish and waiting at the bottom was a few cold beers for them all!!
Between them they hope to raise £2000 so very well done to them all.

Glam Rock n Roll Night - 4th July 2009
A fundraising Glam Rock night was held in Rudi,s wine bar in Swindon with everyone dressing up in 60s and 70s gear and dancing away to the sounds from that era.
A buffet was served with all those old favourites from the 70s and we had a raffle and prize for the best costume. A great night was had by all and we raised £500 for the moon bears.

Sky Dive at Wanborough Airfield - 5th April 2009
On Sunday three brave Animals Asia supporters Sarah Chilvers, Louise Wack and Teresa Green did a skydive from 10,000 feet strapped to the front of experienced Skydivers. After a half hour flight the doors were opened and out they jumped, and for 45secs experienced falling to earth until their chutes opened at 2,000 feet for the leisurely ride to solid ground and all in aid of the moon bears.

Leon Moore Iron Man Event - 13th June 2008
Leon completed a gruelling challenge to raise money for the bears. In the reception area of Cannons Gym in Greenbridge he ran half a marathon, cycled 50 miles, swam for 2 and a half miles and finished with 300 situps. He started this amazing feat at 8am and finally finished at 4pm.
Jill Robinson and the mayor turned up to support him together with Moonie. In total Leon raised an incredible £1400. This is Leon,s 3rd challenge to raise money for the bears. Many thanks to his dedication.

Swindon launched the 10th Anniversary Roadshow with Animals Asia founder Jill Robinson and Christie Lang, the China Relations Director. Among the guests were Swindon,s Mayor Steve Wakefield as guest of honour and AAF UK Patron Paul Martin from TV,s "Flog It" as Celebrity Auctioneer, together with Sarah Fisher the highly regarded dog trainer, specialising in the TTouch approach. From the Swindon Link Magazine was Roger Ogle, the editor, who has raised the profile of AAF,s campaign in Swindon over the last 6 months.
The evening started with a sensational vegetarian banquet for 190 people followed by an emotional presentation by Jill herself relaying all the latest news from the sanctuary. She also talked of the uplifting progress towards ending dog and cat eating by changing the hearts and minds of people towards companion animals in China and the part AAF played in the assistance to people and animals alike in the aftermath of the devastating China earthquake a couple of months before.
Paul Martin hosted an energetic and exciting auction with items donated by local people and companies and these raised huge amounts of money for the moon bears. The evening was rounded off with a Tina Turner tribute act where guests danced away for the rest of the evening.
This amazing event raised £11,275 where 100% all goes to the rescue of the bears from these vile bear farms. Thank you so much to everyone who came along and donated such wonderful items for the aution.

Animals Asia Great Wall of China Challenge - 21st Sept - 1st Oct 2007
link to slide show
On the 21st Sept 11 Animals Asia supporters began their challenge of a lifetime at Heathrow airport on route to Beijing to complete a 6 day challenge to walk one of the great wonders of the world. Sarah and David Chilvers from Swindon together with their fellow supporters walked some of the most spectacular parts of the wall, parts most tourists never see and also had the opportunity to leave their mark upon the Wall by helping to restore it. They had the opportunity to explore Beijing's Hutongs(local houses) on bicycles and visited the famous Ming Tombs.
The highlight of the trip was visiting the moon bear rescue centre which is in Chengdu where they met Jill Robinson. She gave them a tour of the centre and they were delighted to meet the bears and even had the chance to feed treats to them. The evening was rounded off with drinks on top of Freedom's den and a delicious veggy chinese banquet.Everyone stayed the night at the sanctuary and were spurred on to carry on raising money so that AAF can rescue more bears. The whole group together raised approximately £20,000.
